About the Journal

Aims and scope

University and Society Journal (U&SJ) is an annual open-access international journal, published by the Academic Cultural Heritage Department of the Babeș-Bolyai University. The journal intends to become a relevant forum for spreading/publishing research results on all aspects of academic life, as well as on the relationship between society and universities.

We welcome multidisciplinary scholarly contributions on the history of higher education from the Middle Ages to the end of the twentieth century. Both young and experienced authors are invited to share the results of their research on various topics related to the past of universities, their dynamic relations with society, and their contributions to the development of scientific fields.

Our publication encourages comparative approaches based on both qualitative and quantitative data, as well as individual case studies relevant to the global evolution of higher education throughout history.

Our journal accepts original research articles and book reviews in English (UK), French, and Italian. All research articles will undergo a rigorous process of double-blind peer review.

Inaugural issue of University and Society Journal

2026-02-17

This inaugural issue of University and Society Journal explores the university as a dynamic institution that has shaped knowledge, power, and society from the Middle Ages to the present. Emphasising comparative and transnational approaches, the issue welcomes contributions that examine institutional models, academic cultures, intellectual mobility, and the social and political roles of universities across time and space. By situating universities within broader cultural, political, and global contexts, the issue aims to highlight both continuity and transformation in the history of higher education.
